The suitably incredible business letterhead of Nikola Tesla, circa 1900. Inventions featured, clockwise from top-left: Oscillation Transformer, Telautomaton (wireless, remote-controlled devices; pictured is a remotely-operated boat, showcased in 1898), Steam & Gas Turbine, Induction Motor. Centre: Wardenclyffe Tower (never completed).
Related letterhead: Thomas Edison.

MJ: Imagine if the Nikola Tesla Company started up today. Its letterhead would be a minimalist logo/icon and the single word “Tesla”, debossed.
Stan: They’d pay someone like me to “come up with a brand that encapsulates the Nikola Tesla Company’s core values of innovation, thought leadership and excellence”.
MJ: Tesla himself would give the agency this doodle, and they’d throw it out.
Stan: Not quite - we might put it in the PowerPoint when we present the new branding to the Tesla board, to justify the monochrome colour palette we’d decided on as soon as we heard it was a tech firm.
MJ: Nostalgia is counterproductive, but in some ways the past knocks the present out of the park.
